Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
- 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
- Experience in the following areas: data analytics, databases, SQL, and storage systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
- Experience with C++ and Java.
- Experience building infrastructure in Google Cloud or other Cloud providers.
- Experience with high-performance scalable storage and distributed systems backends.
- Experience building or operating large-scale database systems.
- Understanding of enterprise workloads and passion for delighting enterprise customers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy highly scalable and performant features to enhance Apache Iceberg compatibility within BigQuery, spanning data ingestion, query processing, and metadata management at the Petabyte scale.
- Ensure new Iceberg features integrate seamlessly, maintaining the reliability and performance BigQuery users expect, while adhering to open standards.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Customer Engineers, and a wide range of engineering teams, including Catalogs, Federation, and the Query Engine, to deliver unified and impactful solutions. Engage with real customer problems and feedback to drive feature improvements and address critical use cases.
- Track developments in the open-source Apache Iceberg community, understand the evolving spec, contribute to discussions, and advocate relevant community directions within our product roadmap.
- Design and implement comprehensive testing strategies.
