Position: Lighting Design Manager – part of the Lighting Design team within Inhabit and responsible for design, documentation, administration and compliance with project constraints for lighting design consultancy. This role includes legal responsibilities commensurate with the position and, ultimately, aims to grow the lighting business locally, regionally and internationally.

Objective: Grow the lighting business to a point where multiple lighting designers are required across different offices, to be overseen from a management and technical perspective under management guidance.

Major Function Details

Major Function

  • Duties include, but are not limited to, delivering work undertaken by self or through supervision of lighting staff
  • Create, build and maintain business opportunities in lighting and establish an identity of specialist lighting activities
  • Provide high quality, unique design for specialist lighting needs, interpreting client needs, working with architectural features and coordinating with other disciplines
  • Provide leadership to project/design teams to ensure quality outputs
  • Collaborate with Clients, Architects and other consultancy team members
  • Manage allocation of work to Lighting team to ensure sufficient resources
  • Foster cross-pollination opportunities in the Lighting team and promote interest in other disciplines to develop specialist skills
  • Prepare project proposals with inputs from other disciplines as needed
  • Participate in networking events/committees to promote Inhabit
  • Provide training to Lighting team as the business unit develops
  • Assist the Director with Performance reviews and recruitment activities
  • Resolve day-to-day staffing issues
  • Stay up to date with lighting analysis software and market products to support business development

Project Operation / Management

You shall be responsible for efficient and profitable completion of all projects under your control while maintaining high technical standards and client satisfaction. Detailed responsibilities and/or targets include:

  • Cost planning and delivering outputs to meet project budgets
  • Managing clients to secure work, marketing and fee proposals
  • Allocation and management of time to suit programs and budgets; ensure on-time completion and no cost overrun
  • Ensure high technical standards on projects to prevent client complaints

Customer / Client Service

You shall strengthen client loyalty and gain repeat business by providing high quality service and leading-edge lighting solutions. Responsibilities include:

  • Communicate with clients to establish needs and maintain dialogue throughout the project
  • Maintain an exceptional record in timely and quality client responses
  • Aim for repeat business from all clients

Marketing and Business Development

You shall actively participate in marketing the practice as a multi-disciplinary engineering company and achieve targets in practice development, including:

  • Assist in preparing project proposals with inputs from other disciplines (Acoustics, Lighting, Building Physics/Sustainability)
  • Conduct presentations of proposals for prospective clients/projects
  • Complete project sheets and comply with QA procedures
  • Maintain regular contact with existing or prospective clients for potential future work
  • Engage in client-focused activities to enhance the professional image of Inhabit

Technical Quality Control

You shall assume responsibility for work quality and serve as a senior peer review/checking role on projects, including:

  • Provision of concept design, peer review and checking on international projects
  • Take action to prevent design documentation and quality system non-conformity
  • Maintain project documentation per Inhabit’s QA system
  • Promote and support the quality management system

Mentoring, Training and Personal Growth

  • Assist in the professional and technical development of junior staff
  • Contribute to development and improvement of technical notes
  • Coordinate and participate in design workshops with architects, suppliers and professionals
  • Set personal development goals and targets
