Overview

Assistant Professor or Instructor in Genetic Counseling — United Arab Emirates University, Department of Family Medicine. The MSGC seeks outstanding candidates to join our leadership team to support the graduate training program in Genetic Counseling at the Department of Genetics and Genomics in the College of Medicine and Health Science (CMHS) at UAE University. Positions are at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2025. These full-time roles involve leadership of the Master program in Genetic Counseling, teaching and mentoring students, and serving in program leadership and administration. Candidates may focus on the educational mission or have substantial interest in teaching, fieldwork/clinical practice coordination and supervision, admissions and/or research. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Classroom teaching and course coordination
  • Assess, review and advance the research program and curriculum
  • Oversee MSGC graduate research projects; may oversee thesis work of GC students
  • Assist with program admissions, marketing and recruitment
  • Assist with program strategic planning, development and outcomes assessment
  • Active participation in conferences, seminars or meetings as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master in the discipline of genetic counseling
  • At least 5 years of experience as a genetic counselor
  • Experience in fieldwork supervision of genetic counseling graduate students
  • Skills to take on major responsibilities for teaching courses and developing new curricula, mentoring students
  • Experience overseeing student research and clinical training; familiarity with methods and technologies used in genetic research and awareness of ethical issues in research and publications
  • Commitment to CMHS values of respectful dialogue, cultural humility, and health equity
  • Experience in genomics, public health genetics, and bioinformatics preferred
  • Good communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous involvement with a genetic counseling training program (leadership, teaching, clinical rotation oversight, etc.)
  • Classroom teaching experience with demonstrated leadership or educational achievements (course development, directorship of degree programs, publications related to public health education, mentoring and advising)
  • Research experience (peer-reviewed publications, posters/presentations at national meetings, mentorship of student research)
  • International Certification in genetic counseling preferred
