Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled, assertive, and strategic IP Counsel for Litigation & Enforcement to join our Global Legal Group. This is a critical role dedicated to aggressively protecting and enforcing our company’s valuable intellectual property rights across the globe.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned litigator with deep, hands-on experience managing a wide array of IP disputes, including trademark, copyright, patent, and trade secret matters. You will be responsible for developing and executing robust global enforcement strategies , ranging from sophisticated online brand protection and anti-piracy actions to complex, cross-border litigation. This position requires a proactive, commercially-minded leader who can work collaboratively with legal and business teams worldwide to safeguard our brands and innovations in a fast-paced global environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. IP Litigation Management

  • Manage a global portfolio of high-stakes IP litigation , including trademark and copyright infringement lawsuits, patent disputes, and trade secret misappropriation cases.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive litigation strategies, from initial case assessment and pre-litigation counseling through discovery, trial, and appeal.
  • Select, instruct, and manage outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring effective, high-quality, and cost-efficient case handling.
  • Draft and review complex legal briefs, pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
  • Represent the company in direct negotiations, mediations, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) proceedings.

2. Global IP Enforcement & Brand Protection

  • Design and implement a proactive, worldwide IP enforcement program to combat infringement, counterfeiting, and piracy across physical and digital channels.
  • Oversee critical online brand protection efforts, including managing domain name disputes (UDRP), social media takedowns, and marketplace monitoring and enforcement.
  • Manage global trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings to protect the integrity of our brand portfolio.
  • Collaborate with customs authorities and law enforcement agencies globally to execute anti-counterfeiting strategies and physical seizures.
  • Advise on complex issues related to intermediary liability and safe harbor provisions.

3. Strategic Counseling & Risk Mitigation

  • Provide expert legal advice to business, marketing, and product teams on IP risks associated with new products, marketing campaigns, and business initiatives.
  • Conduct thorough IP-related due diligence for M&A and other corporate transactions.
  • Assist the broader IP team in developing and refining global IP prosecution and portfolio management strategies based on enforcement trends and litigation outcomes.
  • Educate and train internal stakeholders on best practices for IP protection and risk management across the organization.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Jurisdiction: Qualified to practice law in a major common law or civil law jurisdiction (e.g., UK, USA, EU member state, etc.).
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant post-qualification experience (PQE) with a primary focus on intellectual property litigation and enforcement. This experience should be gained at a top-tier law firm and/or a multinational in-house legal department.
  • Global Exposure: Demonstrable, hands-on experience managing a variety of IP disputes (trademark, copyright, patent, trade secret) across multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Strategy: Proven track record in developing and executing comprehensive online and offline brand protection strategies.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of international IP laws, treaties, and enforcement frameworks.
  • Skills: Excellent negotiation, advocacy, and legal drafting skills.
  • Mindset: Ability to think strategically and provide commercially-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Management: Exceptional project management skills with the ability to independently manage a large and diverse caseload.
  • Desirable: Experience in the technology, entertainment, gaming, or consumer products industries is highly desirable.

Education

  • LL.B., J.D., or equivalent law degree from a reputable university.
  • Admission to the Bar in a recognized jurisdiction is required.
  • A Master’s degree (LL.M.) specializing in Intellectual Property Law is a strong asset.
