The Strategy Division is seeking a Data Architect who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining institutional data architecture-related activities, including the design, optimisation, and integration of database systems to ensure secure, efficient, and scalable information management in line with the University’s strategic objectives, rules and regulations, applicable standards, policies, and procedures.

The Responsibilities

  • Develop database solutions to store and retrieve university related information efficiently and securely.
  • Improve system performance by conducting tests, troubleshooting issues, and integrating new technical components.
  • Install and configure information systems to ensure functionality, performance, and integration across respective platforms.
  • Analyse structural requirements for new software and applications to design scalable and efficient data solutions.
  • Transfer data from legacy systems to new solutions (when needed) to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts to visualise data structures and support system development.
  • Optimise new and existing database systems to enhance speed, reliability, and scalability.
  • Define security and backup procedures to safeguard data and ensure business continuity.
  • Create and maintain end-to-end data platform architectures on Azure, including data lakes, data warehouses, and data lake houses.
  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for operational systems, data warehouses, and data lakes within the Azure environment.
  • Develop and maintain pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and processing using services like Azure Data Factory.
  • Work closely with the concerned functions across the university to identify future needs and ensure that data architecture supports evolving requirements.
  • Perform ad-hoc activities related to the job duties, as requested by the direct supervisor.

The Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience and at least 2 years in a supervisory position; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience and at least 1 year in a supervisory position.
  • Certification in a relevant field is preferred.
