The Lab Assistant will work closely with the Senior Lab Technician.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS <\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>Meets all work deadlines.  <\/p>\n<p>Communicates with students, staff and faculty professionally.  <\/p>\n<p>Ensures the laboratory classes are efficiently and effectively organized and managed.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES <\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>Assists the senior lab technician to organize &#038; maintain the entire lab facility and its contents.  <\/p>\n<p>Liaises with faculty to coordinate laboratory activities.  <\/p>\n<p>Sets-up apparatus and supplies prior to implementation of lab classes.  <\/p>\n<p>Helps record and maintain laboratory supply inventories and reports issues to the Senior Lab Technician.  <\/p>\n<p>Assists faculty and student research where appropriate.  <\/p>\n<p>Removes\/cleans-up after performance of laboratory classes.  <\/p>\n<p>Prepares documents\/reports as required.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>DEGREE OF INDEPENDENCE\/COMPLEXITY OF ENVIRONMENT <\/strong>  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be willing to be flexible with time (afternoon\/evening, with lab classes running until 9 pm).  <\/li>\n<li>Works independently in a timely and organized way.  <\/li>\n<li>Expected to work in coordination with specialist faculty under overall direction of NSPH Chair, with guidance from the Senior Lab Technician.  <\/li>\n<li>Must have high level of safety awareness.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING RELATIONSHIPS\/IMPACT OF INTERACTIONS <\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>Works directly with NSPH faculty, students, and support staff.  <\/p>\n<p>May need to interact with purchasing department\/vendors for supplies.  <\/p>\n<p>The impact of the interaction must be positive, professional and support\/maintain the academic climate.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>EDUCATION &#038; EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS <\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>Must possess a Diploma in Chemistry or Biology from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education\/experience with 0-1 years relevant experience.  <\/p>\n<p>Good facility management and administrative skills: proficient in maintaining chemical &#038; equipment inventories as well assisting the senior lab technician in handling orders and the resourcing of additional equipment and materials.  <\/p>\n<p>Excellent computer skills (MS Word and Excel a minimum; Access, and computer interfacing in the laboratory would be an asset).  <\/p>\n<p>High level of safety awareness in the laboratory environment.  <\/p>\n<p>Fluent in written and oral English.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>COMPETENCIES <\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>Communication -Able to share information in an effective &#038; collaborative manner, both verbally and in writing.  <\/p>\n<p>Customer &#038; Service Focused &#8211; Demonstrates a spirit of service excellence  <\/p>\n<p>Results &#038; Action Orientation &#8211; Demonstrates initiative to generate improvements and foster positive outcomes.  <\/p>\n<p>Builds Effective Interpersonal Relationships &#8211; Demonstrates interpersonal effectiveness in the workplace.  <\/p>\n<p>Knowledge &#038; Technical Competency &#8211; Demonstrates proficiency in technical and job knowledge aspects of the position to achieve high level of performance.
