About the Role :

The Architectural Site Inspector will assist the Resident Engineer in administering the operational functions of day-to-day activities on the project. They will participate in review and approval of all submittals by the contractors and be involved in quality control and quality assurance.

Under the supervision of the project resident engineer, the inspector performs routine inspection monitoring tasks to confirm if proper construction supervision is being performed by others. They inspect various facets of work on the construction site and perform continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and specifications. They document nonconformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolution.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Site Architect in performing the contractual duties on site.
  • Verify the quality of finishes and materials used in the project to meet specified standards and project requirements. This involves examining finishes such as surface preparation, paint or surface coatings to check for proper application, smoothness, color consistency and absence of defects.
  • Ensure that installations of finishes, joineries, doors, windows, hardscaping, facade walls, ceilings and tiles comply with approved shop drawings and relevant industry standards.
  • Examine the installation of finishes such as tiles, flooring, glazing, GRC and wall claddings to confirm they are correctly installed, aligned and secured; check adhesion, grouting, jointing and overall workmanship.
  • Inspect surface preparations and verify they are smooth, free from debris and adequately primed or sealed; check material compatibility.
  • Inspect materials and installations for fire resistance, acoustic performance, moisture protection.
  • Familiar with electronic documentation systems (ASite) and able to manage the snag/desnag process for the discipline.
  • Interface with the public, especially residents and business owners adjacent to the work, to mitigate construction impacts.
  • Oversee and inspect all architectural work and ensure installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards.
  • Follow up with the contractor and support coordination with the utility authority regarding connections when required.
  • Ensure that project quality control procedures are used for construction supervision works and monitor them for improvement.
  • Monitor and coordinate all contractors’ activities for this discipline.
  • Perform works inspection requests and material inspection requests daily.
  • Support the Site Architect in reviewing submittals from project inception to closeout.
  • Collaborate with construction management to eliminate hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees.
  • Review and interpret discipline design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical details of the work.
  • Provide resolution for technical engineering problems within the assigned discipline(s); coordinate application of solutions to ensure progress on site.
  • Monitor material procurement and deliveries to ensure timeliness in support of construction activities and the schedule within the assigned discipline.
  • Ensure that materials received meet specifications and established standards of quality.
  • Organize the accumulation of assigned discipline data for final project turnover and report.
  • Initiate and maintain records, back charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required.
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as appropriate.
  • Check that materials delivered to site are appropriately stored and report discrepancies.
  • Inspect the construction of temporary and permanent works to ensure compliance with the Contract Documents, approved shop drawings and submittals.
  • Prepare daily logs and reports; maintain records of inspections, tests performed, work executed, etc., in accordance with Contract Administration Procedures Manual.
  • Observe site safety and quality practices and the progress of the work; report any concerns.
  • Photo/video recording of site progress and observations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the direct manager.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Degree in Architecture.
  • Minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience on large-scale projects.
  • Revit and other software packages are an advantage.
  • Regional experience.
  • ADM and DM registration is preferred.
  • Awareness of local applicable building codes and requirements (ADIBC, ADCD, FLS, etc.).
  • A professional who can manage and coordinate specialized activity, discipline, or team of moderate size and complexity.
