Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or other relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 20 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience tuning and applying large language models (LLMs).
  • Experience with leadership responsibility over multiple technical areas within a company or product area.

Preferred qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering is strongly desired.
  • Experience with technical and product innovation supporting a cross-functional engineering environment.
  • Experience mentoring engineering leaders and bridging teams to drive efficiencies.
  • Technically proficient, with the ability to understand all of the areas within Search including Search Content Platform and products like AI Mode (AIM) and AI Overviews (AIO).
  • Ability to balance detailed, technical guidance with big picture strategy, enabling teams to deliver products that are effective.

About the job

As the Distinguished Engineer (DE) for Search Content Platform (SCP) you will be the senior technical leader responsible for driving the technical vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmaps that transform Google’s content infrastructure into an AI-first platform. This role is pivotal in enabling Search to “answer, explore, and work on anything” by delivering the world’s most comprehensive and trustworthy knowledge source to power Gemini and Search products (AIM/AIO).

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $365,000-$505,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Drive a new content strategy to eliminate content voids, accelerate acquisition from months to days, and improve Search helpfulness while reducing ungrounded responses.
  • Define the architecture for the first-party and third-party agentic ecosystem and reduce latency and serving costs through offline pre-computation and caching.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to drive technical changes by authoring next-level designs.
  • Drive technical roadmaps, mentor leads on high-priority OKRs, define SLAs, and establish clear success metrics.
