About the job

Like Google’s own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of Engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started — and as a manager, you guide the way.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

Our team’s mission is to power the open and free internet by creating value for users, publishers, advertisers, and Google.

App and Display Campaigns are a significant contributor in generating business for Google Ads and empowering millions of advertisers and publishers worldwide. Our team is responsible for building end-to-end solutions that enable our advertisers to consistently meet and exceed their performance objectives.

We operate across the full technology stack, encompassing everything from rendering various ad formats for end-users and optimizing ad serving mechanisms to developing sophisticated capabilities and addressing other crucial advertiser requirements.

Google Ads is helping power the open internet with the best technology that connects and creates value for people, publishers, advertisers, and Google. We’re made up of multiple teams, building Google’s Advertising products including search, display, shopping, travel and video advertising, as well as analytics. Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We help grow businesses of all sizes from small businesses, to large brands, to YouTube creators, with effective advertiser tools that deliver measurable results. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, mentor, coach, manage, and foster the continuous growth of talented engineers.
  • Work closely with Product Managers and cross-functional leaders to develop a clear roadmap and portfolio of projects that achieve overarching business goals and align with team capabilities.
  • Translate broad product goals into clear engineering requirements, then plan, oversee, and help the team successfully execute them.
  • Collaborate directly with customers to understand their issues, define specific problems, and design innovative solutions.
  • Own the team’s current portfolio of products, ensuring ongoing business value, effectively triaging customer issues, suggesting continuous improvements, and evolving the system for future success.
