Head of Commercial Department Contracting Group

Our client is seeking a strategic and results-oriented leader to spearhead the Commercial Department, driving revenue growth and profitability within the Contracting arm and its subsidiaries.

About the Opportunity:

As the Head of the Commercial Department, you will play a pivotal role in securing new business opportunities, primarily in the contracting and Ready-Mix sectors. You will lead a team of professionals, developing and executing winning commercial strategies while ensuring efficient tendering processes and effective risk management. This is a critical position that contributes significantly to the financial success of the entire group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • o Develop and implement comprehensive commercial strategies to secure new contracts, maximize revenue, and enhance profitability.
  • o Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential opportunities, competitors, and industry trends.
  • o Oversee the entire tendering process, ensuring accurate bid preparation, compliance with requirements, and alignment with group objectives.
  • o Lead the team in preparing, submitting, and negotiating bids and proposals to win profitable contracts.
  • o Negotiate contract terms and conditions with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to secure favorable outcomes.
  • o Develop cost estimates and pricing strategies for tenders, considering cost factors, overheads, and profit margins.
  • o Assess and manage risks associated with tender submissions, including financial, legal, and contractual risks.
  • o Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and requirements.
  • o Lead and manage a team of tendering and commercial professionals, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
  • o Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements throughout the tendering and delivery process.
  • o Monitor the performance of the tendering department, tracking key metrics such as win rates, bid success rates, and profitability.
  • o Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the tendering and commercial department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
    MBA or relevant professional certifications (CIPS, CSCP) is a strong plus.
  • Proven experience of at least 5 years in tendering, commercial management, or business development, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role as Head of Department.
  • Strong knowledge of contract management, dispute resolution, and commercial negotiation.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Negotiation and persuasion abilities.
  • Financial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight budgets and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and tendering software.
