Marine Underwriting

AIG underwriting teams help to find insurance solutions in areas including Financial Lines, Property Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber, Multinational Clients and High Net Worth individuals. How you will create an impact

The purpose of this job is to manage the Marine portfolio for our GCCNA region and be responsible for Profit and Sales for the Marine division.

Additionally this role will also be responsible for oversight of underwriting staff, portfolio management, building and enhancing broker and insured relationships, training & developing current underwriting teams, hiring additional staff, maintaining profitability and development/execution of successful business plan.

What you’ll need to succeed

Qualifications & Education: University Degree / CII Qualification

Experience: Extensive business experience and proven track record of technical underwriting and portfolio management of marine products.

Training: No mandatory external training

Knowledge: Marine Product knowledge, Business Finance & Insurance acumen, Market Knowledge, Compliance, People Management, Change management skills, Extensive underwriting and market knowledge, Reviewing contracts, policy wordings, manuscript wordings, Risk Management/Loss Control

Job Accountabilities

  • Portfolio Management
  • Ownership of Marine P & L with focus on profitable growth
  • Ensure adherence to Marine Underwriting Guidelines
  • Retention and New Business Development
  • Maintain and develop strong broker/client relationships
  • Generate new business from existing producers and up-sell current accounts.
  • Ensure account retention rates are maintained as per company/department norms.

Product and Technology

  • Review / refresh existing products on 18/24-month cycle
  • Innovation and development of new products or offerings on 18/24-month cycle
  • Ensure the use of technology mainly for high volume small ticket policies. Bring in efficiency to existing processes by using the available technologies.

Team Management

  • Provide support and guidance to the team for both personal and professional development. Including but not limited to technical development, confidence building strategies and direction, clear communication, etc.
  • Ensure team performance is in line with Company / Department norms
  • Ensure that the team achieves individual and company objectives
