About the job
Google’s software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We’re looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development of features that drive business growth and content discovery on the Google TV platform. You will work across the full stack, transitioning between building high-performance User Interface (UI) components for the Android launcher and developing the server-side APIs that power them. You will solve technical issues at the intersection of the client and server to ensure a seamless experience for users. You will act as a key technical contributor, collaborating with partners in the Ads Product Area and other Google TV teams to design and implement mission-critical business generation features.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google’s various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user’s interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain features across the Google TV launcher and the server-side platform.
- Build and optimize UI components for the Google TV home screen.
- Write high-quality code primarily in Kotlin, while maintaining and interfacing with existing Java codebases.
- Develop and scale backend services and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that power business generation and content discovery.
- Partner with Product Management, User Experience (UX), Content Programming, and teams across the YouTube/Ads Product Areas and Google TV.
