Role Purpose:
As Head of IWPB for the UAE & Middle East the role has overall responsibility for UAE & Middle East IWPB and is a member of the Global IWPB OpCo and thus helps to shape the Global IWPB strategy. You will have responsibility for the operational results of the region defining and implementing the strategy, developing the business in selected segments and products, and strengthening synergies across Global Businesses to maximize profitability. The role holder will be instrumental in improving customer experience through automation and digitalization and in implementing the ‘protect’ agenda by embedding the 3 Lines of Defense and Global Standards in IWPB regionally. You will be required to work / represent the bank with several regulators and adhere to the various legislative requirements across all markets. The region has several high-risk profiles clients markets in the Middle East due to the close proximity to sanctioned countries and therefore, risk oversight required by the role holder is heightened. The role holder is also a key member of the UAE and HBME Operating Committee. The role holder acknowledges that they will share proactive oversight and accountability for their business / function with Country CEOs over governance and appropriate control over all decisions, including those relating to P& L (where this is not clearly defined in any pre-existing, underlying agreement (e.g. PLA)). This is to ensure no duties or responsibilities are inadvertently overlooked.
Principle Accountabilities
Impact on the business
- Effective delivery of the Hub and Spoke model across the region
- Formulate and implement the strategic and annual operating plans for IWPB in the region to achieve aggressive growth in support of Group strategies.
- Actively manage the distribution channel mix and drive process improvements to support business strategy.
- To drive the profit and income for the IWPB business against agreed product and customer targets.
- Manage the UAE & Middle East product specialists to develop the most effective marketing plans and product development plans for IWPB in the region.
- Strengthen the HSBC market and brand position by establishing strategic direction and priorities for branding.
- Contribute to the formulation and achievement of the overall regional IWPB strategy and AOP as a member of HBME Committee, promoting sustainable business growth.
Customers/ stakeholders
- Drive excellence in Customer Experience across the Retail business through innovative initiatives.
- Manage customer segmentation strategies and align to channel deployment across the region, ensuring true differentiation and the best alignment of channels to customer usage.
- Champion digitization strategies across the region to improve end to end customer experience
- Promote widespread understanding of core brand values and consistent delivery of the overall brand promise.
Leadership and teamwork
- Provision of inspirational leadership for IWPB business to achieve Excellence in Sales and Service.
- Manage the regional resources and ensure the bank is competing effectively in local recruitment markets and is known as a great place to work.
- Develop an effective organization structure that clearly aligns IWPB strategy to customer service and has clearly defined role clarity.
- Drive the development of staff across the region’s business including the annual graduate intake for IWPB, to create a talent pipeline for the business.
- Champion the recruitment, development and retention of local National employees across the Middle East markets.
- Drive the diversity and inclusion agenda across the region, including the acceleration of female talent into key roles.
Operational effectiveness & control
- Manage effective relationships with external stakeholders, including financial regulators and governments.
- Manage costs across the regions, identifying areas of inefficiency and addressing unnecessary costs as required.
- Minimize reputation and operation risks, optimize risks and returns to grow a sustainable business.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and internal operating guidelines through robust controls and monitoring frameworks.
- Monitor risk exposure, and economic and market developments, and support strategic and tactical credit decisions to optimize risks and returns.
- Achieve and sustain compliance with Global Financial Crime Compliance policies and procedures across the region.
- Implement enhancements to Operational Risk Management Framework in the region.
Critical experience required
- Domain experience: Deep understanding of the IWPB product set with extensive experience of commercial leadership within both Wealth Management and Retail Banking .
- Deep knowledge of Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management & Controls: Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions, including compliance with local financial regulations and international standards. Able to maintain operational excellence whilst mitigating risks, building controls and enable effective risk management
- Global Experience & Cultural Understanding: Extensive international experience , including cultural fluency , understanding the interplay between geopolitics and commercial outcomes , and connectivity with a range of stakeholders (i.e. customers, regulators, and employees) in multiple jurisdictions
- Successful track record of strategy Execution: Proven ability to develop and implement strategies that align with business overall goals for sales, revenue growth, client relationship management and customer service and digital innovation . Track record of success in leading client-related business units of scale, with P&L responsibility .
