Head of IT – Retail & Wholesale (SAP Environment)

Position Overview

The Head of IT will lead the overall IT and digital strategy for a large Retail & Wholesale business, ensuring technology drives operational excellence, scalability, and business growth.

This role will be responsible for aligning IT initiatives with business goals, overseeing SAP ERP operations and enhancements, enabling data-driven decision-making, and leading digital transformation across retail, wholesale, distribution, and supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the organization’s IT and digital strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify technology-driven opportunities for efficiency, innovation, and customer engagement.
  • Lead the digital transformation roadmap, including automation, analytics, mobility, and e-commerce enablement.
  • Manage IT budgets, investments, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Oversee the SAP landscape (ECC / S/4HANA), ensuring system stability, optimization, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive integration between SAP and other business systems such as CRM, POS, WMS, TMS, and e-commerce platforms.
  • Ensure best practices in SAP configuration, upgrades, and process alignment across finance, supply chain, procurement, sales, and retail operations.
  • Lead vendor and implementation partner relationships for SAP and other enterprise solutions.

3. IT Operations & Infrastructure

  • Ensure reliable, secure, and scalable IT infrastructure across corporate offices, retail stores, and distribution centers.
  • Oversee network management, cybersecurity, cloud environments, and data center operations.
  • Implement ITIL-based service management processes to improve service delivery and uptime.
  • Establish enterprise-wide data governance and business intelligence frameworks.
  • Drive advanced analytics, predictive insights, and data visualization to support decision-making.
  • Support business teams with tools for real-time performance tracking and demand forecasting.
  • Lead digital initiatives in customer engagement, loyalty programs, omnichannel retail, and supply chain automation.
  • Explore emerging technologies such as AI, RPA, IoT, and automation to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
  • Collaborate with marketing and operations teams to enable digital commerce and mobile applications.

6. Governance, Compliance & Security

  • Ensure IT compliance with regulatory, data protection, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Establish strong IT governance policies and risk management frameworks.
  • Manage business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing IT team with capabilities in ERP, infrastructure, data analytics, and digital technologies.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with HR to drive digital literacy and technology adoption across the organization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 15+ years of IT leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management role within Retail, FMCG, or Distribution environments.
  • Proven experience leading SAP implementations and upgrades (ECC or S/4HANA) across multiple business functions.
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, wholesale distribution, supply chain, and finance processes.
  • Demonstrated success in digital transformation, data analytics, and enterprise system integration.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
